Float vs Fixed Rate
Ghost Exchange offers two rate types for every swap. Here's how they differ.
Float Rate
- —The rate fluctuates with the market until your deposit is confirmed on-chain
- —You might receive slightly more or less than the estimate
- —Lower fee — typically 0.2% service fee
- —Best for: Users who are comfortable with minor fluctuations
Fixed Rate
- —The rate is locked immediately when you create the order
- —You receive exactly the amount shown (minus network fees)
- —Slightly higher fee — typically 0.3% service fee
- —Best for: Users who want guaranteed output
- —Note: Fixed rate orders have a time limit for deposit (usually 20 minutes)
Which Should I Choose?
| Scenario | Recommended |
|---|---|
| Market is stable | Float (lower fee) |
| Market is volatile | Fixed (guaranteed amount) |
| Small amounts | Float (fee difference is minimal) |
| Large amounts | Fixed (protect against slippage) |
| You'll deposit quickly | Either works |
| Deposit might be delayed | Float (no time limit) |
Example
Swapping 1 XMR → BTC:
- —Float: Estimated 0.00185 BTC. Final could be 0.00183–0.00187 BTC depending on market movement.
- —Fixed: Guaranteed 0.00182 BTC (slightly less due to higher fee, but locked).
